Peppone

Our Airbnb was next door and we saw a long line everyday that never ended. So we tried one day for an early lunch before it got busy. We regret not trying the pizza but we were both very happy with our dishes. Would definitely come back when in Bordeaux.

Excellent food! Salad, pasta and dessert were all delicious. Friendly staff and a lively crowd. The Saltambuco was very good!

The atmosphere at Peppone is great, it's busy and worthy of an authentic italian soiree! The food is delicious, ingredients come straight from Italy. You can also take away and eat at home...
The only problem is that you can't book so be ready to wait in line before you can get a table.

Decent pizza and pretty good service. We asked for crispy crusts on our 3 pizzas but they still came out a bit soft with too much of a topping layer and tomato sauce wetness. They have beer but it's Italian-only, keeping with the theme of the restaurant. I ordered the chorizo pizza and their chorizo is a lot like a large pepperoni slice but less greasy, spicy and more paprika. There's definitely such a thing as too much cheese on pizza and some of ours had that problem. This is Bordeaux, FR, so expectations on food are high - this felt like a 3 star experience.

I did not enjoy this place. The pizzas are too thin and have a fast-food-restaurant like crust. The pasta I ordered (tagliatelle with 2 cheese) had a very mild cheese taste (was more of a plain cream sauce), so much that I wonder if there was any gorgonzola in it at all. The meat dishes that my friends ordered were acceptable but the portions were very small. The redeeming part of the meal was dessert as we enjoyed the profiteroles and mousse au chocolat. However when I asked the waitress if she could do something for my son's birthday (which was that day), she said they were not allowed to put candles and did not offer to any other alternative. I will not be returning to this restaurant.

This is our favorite place to eat in Bordeaux... the pasta is made daily on site, the salad mixte is simple and Amazing wine selection is super. The servers can be hit or miss.... but we always order the same so it doesn't matter. Love this place. Been in Bordeaux a Long time.

What a great restaurant. Sure, go ahead, pick up your wine in the cellar! How great sounds that! I decided to go for a pizza with fresh tomatoes, fresh basil and pesto and I added olives as well. Lovely! The wine tasted great, the service was good. Although we were the only ones still in the restaurant after lunch, the waitress patiently helped us and let us tast the sparkling wine.
The interior looks very nice, all wood, a few painted ceilings and a great cellar.

The positive: it is kind of cool to walk through the wine cellar to select the wine. The rest of the meal is lackluster. Their Milanese is over-cooked and dry. Their pasta sauces are not good and the pizzas are just ok. Definitely look elsewhere for Italian food in Bordeaux.

The Good: Their food and prices are fantastic!
The Bad: Their is usually a queue (line) to enter and the tables are a bit close.

The food quality far outweighs the negatives for Peppone. Personally I think some of these folks that left 3 stars shouldn't judge a restaurant on their line, it only means that they're popular and their food is great!

I've eaten here three times and loved the food every time. Their Lasagna is fantastic as well as their Pancetta Pizza. Their Tiramisu and their Profiteroles are also amazing!

You can pick up pizzas to go in the back (other side of the building) and even take home some Prosciutto or dessert if you don't want to wait in line ;)
